I was happily surprised also when they sang that song!! That is my favorite song. What is even more surprising is that the week before was Dolly Parton week and she sang a song about Jesus. The AI contestants also had to sing Dolly Parton songs last week, and many of them chose songs that mentioned Jesus.

It is now Thursday night at 8 pm and I have to add something to my previous post. American Idol is on again tonight and they started the show with all the contestants singing my favorite song again. You guessed it....shout to the Lord. It was not a repeat from last night. It is a new show and they sang Shout to the Lord AGAIN.!!!

Yep!!! I watch American Idol every week and there have been quite a few songs sang that mention Jesus. It's pretty spiffy!!!!! And yes, they sang Shout to the Lord AGAIN tonight...and it wasn't a repeat! They actually sang it AGAIN. Yay God!
So now the question is WHY? Is one of the producers (or Simon Cowell) a Christian? Or are they supporting their audience, realizing they have a large Christian and/or family values base?
The next question is which of the three judges acts more Christian?
Randy, who's easy going?
Paula, who loves everyone?
Simon, with high standards and the sword of truth?

Thanks Ken for the attempt at help. I have searched the blogosphere for an answer to this question, but thus far have not come up with a satisfactory answer. It is peculiar, but I am certainly certain the Lord can and will use it for His glory. I am still amazed by this, but maybe I shouldn't be.
When I got together yesterday with Friend Adam Tisdale (who just commented), he informed me that he and his wife fast forward through Paula's comments.
So if she's your vote for the most Christian of the trio (for her unconditional love), you might take issue with Pastor Adam.
This also means that if you fast forward through commercials AND Paula, especially since she often takes the longest to comment, you can get the show down to about 4 and a half minutes.

I got bored at the end of Wednesdays idol and FF'd over the song because I didn't know!
I DID watch Thursday (Bye-bye Michael Johns... You weren't my favorite but you didn't deserve to go) And was shocked and amazed to hear them sing Shout to the Lord!!! Yay! Whatever the reason we should ALL email AI and tell them it was awesome!
Most Christian judge? Tis a beard- strokng inquiry indeed. I vote for Randy because he is honest without being cruel and doesn't try to unduly draw attention to himself. (But we all know it's Simons searing words of truth that matter)
I haven't watched AI for several seasons, but I think it owes it's popularity solely to Simon. Don't know if he is a Christian or not, but he was on Oprah a few months ago and part of the show was how he paid off the mortgage for a family in need. I won't go into it all but it was a very touching story.
Ok so I saw both performances of Shout to the Lord. And am I the only one who noticed that the first performance wednesday night it started off with "My Shepard, my Savior"???? Matt and I actually were very disturbed by this. Why would they take Jesus out of it? WE had never heard the version of the song like and since everything else was the same, it was very strange. We decided that it was indeed very sad that they had even sung that song, especially taking Jesus' name out of, as His name is offensive. WE also decided that since it was Idol Gives Back, they wanted to throw God in there because God is "good" type a thing. And of course to appeal to Christians out there and for people to give and what not. Then the next night they sang it again! We found this very stranged indeed. And needless to say I don't know what to think. It was very strange watching Shout to the Lord become a performance instead of a song to the Lord. I have to admit I wasn't so much a fan of it. I'm pretty sure I'd rather they hadn't sung it at all. I mean, did they know what they were singing? DId they care? Or did all they care about was what they looked like on stage?
Hmm...perhaps I am just pessimistic of the culture in our country concerning Christianity.
How about this thought:
"Christians decided to market Christianity, and so the world realized they could do the same."
hmm...yes. I spose that does seem to be true.

Not to be judgmental, but I would not necessarily think that Simon is a Christian because he was bragging about not "abstaining" a few weeks ago after one of Brooke's performances. If he is, he is certainly wayward. I am wondering if either Brooke or Christy Lee Cook could be on the right side of the fence? Not David--he is a Mormon.
